Call of Duty has been helpful in apprehending a prison escapee this week. Confused? It gets weirder.
So, the story goes that a man named Clint Butler has been on the run from UK police since November last year. He fled from Spring Hill Prison in Buckinghamshire. He was serving a 17-year sentence for robbery and firearms offenses.
Butler was caught by the local authorities after he came out of hiding to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War. He apparently went to buy the game because he couldn’t just “sit around in lockdown”.
He has since gotten a 19 month increase to his sentence.
West Midlands Police is quoted to have said, “Quite why he decided to risk being returned to prison by making the idiotic decision to come into town during lockdown with a friend to buy a video game will remain a bit of a mystery.”
And that “unsolvable” mystery, our story ends.
Once again, yes. This is a real thing that really happened.
