Bethesda has announced that it will be rereleasing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim again. This time, the version of Skyrim that we are getting is called the Anniversary edition and it is being released to commemorate the ten year anniversary of the game.
The rerelease was announced during Quakecon and will be releasing on 11 November, which is the date the game originally released 10 years ago.
If you were wondering what possible reason Bethesda could give to rebuy a game you likely own on at least one platform, wait til you hear about all the “unique content” in this game.
According to Bethesda, the release will feature “over 500 pieces of unique content from Creation Club”.
Creation Club, if you might recall, is the so-called where Bethesda makes gamers pay for mods for Skyrim. They claim that these mods are of a higher quality than what’s available for free, which is arguable to say the least.
Another point to keep in mind is that these “500 pieces of unique content” come from breaking down “all 48 currently available creations” and 26 unreleased creations into individual elements such as quests, items, armor, houses, etc.
Anyway, if you own the Skyrim Special Edition, you can buy this new edition as an upgrade.
Additionally, the Special Edition is now getting a fishing update that allows you to grab a pole and go fishing in the game. There are also fishing quests.
You will also be able to gain two of the Creation Club’s paid mods for free. One of them is called Survival Mode and is an optional difficulty that adds hunger, fatigue, and cold mechanics. The other one is called Saints & Seducers, which is a quest set on the Shimmering Isles.
Of course, it must be stated that there are plenty of free fan-made mods for Skyrim that add these features and much, much more.
Skyrim has been rereleased so many times that the very idea has become a meme and a joke. Here’s a video of Keegan Michael Key and a joke video of Skyrim on Alexa that Bethesda themselves made to prove this very point.
With this new re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-etc-release of the game, the question becomes whether what it offers is worth it. As of right now, it is hard to say that it is.
All that aside, Skyrim itself is a game that occupies a special place in many players’ memories.
We hope you all had a great time playing the game this last ten years and will continue to do so, if it brings you joy.
