Sony announced that the upgrade from PS4 to PS5 version for Horizon Forbidden West will be free of charge.
This came after a massive criticism from fans when the company announced that there would not be any upgradable path for the PS4 players, despite announcing earlier that the upgrade to PS5 will be free.
This was announced in an updated post in PlayStation Blog, Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Media said “While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.”
At the start, in order for the PS4 players to play the game, they had options to buy the $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition, or $199.99 Collector’s Edition or $259.99 Regalla Edition to get access for both versions of the game.
After the backlash the players are able to buy the PS4 version for $59.99 and PS5 version for $69.99. The Special Edition for PS4 is $69.99 and for PS5 is $79.99.
Horizon Forbidden West is set to be released on 18th February 2021 and is currently up for pre-order.
In other related news, in the same post Jim Ryan announced that there will be $10 digital upgrade path for all of the first party PlayStation exclusives that are cross-gen.
“I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
