We got our first real look at God of War Ragnarok during the PlayStation Stream on 9th September. The event itself was full of interesting announcements and game reveals. But for now, let’s see what new details we have gathered for the upcoming God of War game.
The trailer starts off with Kratos and Atreus hiding away in a remote location as the freezing winters of Ragnarok engulfs the lands of Midgard.
Since the events of God of War (2018) Atreus has grown stronger, as seen at the start of the trailer where Atreus is returning with a hunt. This is a call back to the prequel where Atreus was unable to kill a stag after landing an arrow.
The rift between Atreus and Kratos seems to have grown as Atreus is curious about finding more about himself and to take more of an active role in the conflict against the Gods.
Kratos and Atreus were not the only characters shown during the reveal trailer. We have some characters from the previous God of War game returning to Ragnarok and as well as new characters joining the battle.

A vengeful Freya is returning to unleash her wrath on Kratos and Atreus. Her character design makes her look slightly unhinged, the devs at Santa Monica want players to know that Freya is a terrifyingly powerful warrior in her own right. Freya, along with Thor are set to be the main antagonists in God of War Ragnarok. Freya will be voiced by Danielle Bisutti.

“Are you a calm and a reasonable person?” After Kratos killed Magni and Modi in 2018’s title, Thor is here for revenge. Referred to disparagingly by Mimir as the “Biggest Butchering Bastard in the Nine Realms,” Thor earned his title as one of the most powerful Aesir gods by wiping out nearly all the Giants at Odin’s command. Thor is voiced by Ryan Hurst (“Opie” from Sons of Anarchy TV show).

Angraboda was shown towards the very end of the trailer. She’s one of the last living giants, in Norse mythology she’s depicted as Loki’s lover and the mother of creatures such as Jormungandr, the World Serpent, and Fenrir, the mighty wolf. Angrboda will be voiced by Laya DeLeon Hayes.

Tyr, Norse God of War is hinted as an ally of Kratos and Atreus. However, he might also be a key character that could drive a wedge between the father and son duo. Santa Monica confirms that Tyr is 8’5 tall, which is much taller than Kratos. However, not as tall as Lady Dimitrescu who is said to be 9’6. Tyr will be voiced by Ben Prendergast.

Durlin appears to be a scholarly dwarf, he was briefly shown in the trailer with his pet squid creature. Durlin will be voiced by Usman Ally.

The friendly blacksmiths Brok and Sindri are returning to assist Kratos and Atreus on their journey. Robert Craighead and Adam Harrington will voice the duo.
Players will be able to traverse the nine realms of Asgard, each with their own dangers and enemies. New combat mechanics are also available as shown in the trailer with new attack abilities, and a new Runic Summon for Atreus.
God of War Ragnarok is set for release on 2022 for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
