PlayStation Showcase 2021 Highlights


On September 9, PlayStation held a showcase to showcase their upcoming games.

Let’s have a look at the announcements.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Teaser

The showcase started off with a bang with the announcement of a remake of one of the most beloved Star Wars games of all time, which is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The announcement caught us and fans around the world off guard.

The game takes place 4000 years before the events of the original trilogy of Star Wars movies, where Darth Malak, a Dark Sith Lord have unleashed a Sith armada against the Galactic Republic. You play as a Jedi where you travel across multiple planets to defeat Darth Malak. Plot decisions and interaction with others will earn you Light Side and Dark Side points and the alignment system will determine whether the player aligns with either the light or dark side of the force. This system was very unique to this franchise and that made this game stand out from the rest.

Although the original game was made by BioWare, the remake is being developed by Aspyr Media. This is the same team that has brought multiple Star Wars game to modern consoles which includes Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars: Episode I – Racer, Star Wars: Republic Commando, and the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

They are making the game from ground up with the latest technologies, features and visuals while staying true to the original story. To make this possible Aspyr has assembled a team of the best talents from across the industry which includes industry veterans who have worked on great RPG’s and also some of the members from the original game.

The game is currently early in development but the team is hoping to give long time fans and newcomers an experience to match the best of the modern releases. In addition, the game is a console exclusive to PS5 when it launches.

Project EVE


The second announcement is Project EVE. This title is developed by a Korean studio named Shift Up and also happens to be their very first console game. The studio is mostly known for their mobile game, Destiny Child. Project EVE was announced to be in development back in 2019.

In the not-too-distant future, mankind is expelled from Earth after losing the battle against the invaders called the NA:tives. To win back Earth, you play as Eve, the survivor of the paratrooper squad deployed from the Colony, who must fight through powerful enemies with new comrades while journeying a desolate destroyed Earth.

The combat system is deliberate while at the same time remaining fluid and zestful. You have to learn attack pattern of various enemies and counter with precise timing in order to survive. You are able to continue the flow of battle after parrying and evading. You are able to take down enemies using multiple combo skills in a spectacular and amusing display of power. There are multiple ways you can use to travel in the environment which include scaling walls, sliding tactically, swinging on ropes. You can explore the terrain and find hidden treasure hidden throughout the world.

As the game progresses, Eve is able to acquire skills and items which makes her stronger. You will get Beta Gauge (BG), by evading and parrying in combat. You can use them to gain skills like piercing super armor, interrupt enemy combo and more. She also has a Burst Gauge which accumulates when you perform successive parries and combos, which can be used to activate buffs and powerful attacks like a leaping stab. You can also find stylish costumes throughout the world which can change Eve’s look.

The game will be release on PS5, however there is no release date yet.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands


Geabox revealed the first gameplay trailer for their new game, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. This is a standalone game set in the Borderlands universe.

The trailer opens with Tiny Tina welcoming you to a fantasy world where the peace is threaten by the Dragon Lord. He is obsessed with ruling the world and Tiny Tina is your guide. She is a fan favorite in the Borderlands universe who is known for endearing and unpredictable nature.

There are many locations that were shown from majestic towns to mushroom forests. You are also able to catch glimpses of the Overworld and the tabletop zone. During your quest, you are able to meet a wide variety of monsters from lad-roaming sharks to sentient smack-talking skeletons. Like the Borderland tradition, you are able to access a wide variety of incredible arsenals at your disposals.

You are able to create your own hero but details of it will be revealed in the future. There is a multiclass system that lets you mix and match six different character skill trees with their own awesome abilities. You can also customize how your player look and even sound. You are able to play solo or play with your friends up to four player co-op.

The game is set to be released worldwide on 25th March 2022 and pre-orders are now live. The developers will reveal more info about the game in the months ahead.

Forspoken


Luminous Studios unvealed a story introduction trailer for their game, Forspoken. The trailer introduces you to the protagonist and her backstory. In addition it also answered some of the questions that fans were wondering about.

You play as Frey Holland, a 21 year old directionless, gritty yet street smart young woman who has persevered despite her rough upbringing in New York City. Things took a turn for the unexpected when she gets magically teleported to Athia, a place where fantasies and nightmares are real.

You will be able to harness newy discovered magical abilities to battle the terrifying monsters. To have a chance of returning home, Frey have to come up against the Tantas, who are twisted matriarchs whom rule over Athia.

In the trailer, you are also introduced to some of the characters in the game. Cuff, your companion on your journey is a magical sentient bracelet who helps you navigate the landscape. Johedy, is a hard-nosed archivist who guides you and Auden, a kind and open minded young woman who prioritizes the needs of others before her own. At the last you the introduced to the villain of the game who is Tanta Sila, the strongest and most formidable Tanta in Athia. She once protected Athia with her formidable strength in battle but no she is a dictator who is mad with power.

The game is set to released in 2022 for the PS5.

Alan Wake Remastered


Remedy Entertainment announced Alan Wake Remastered a few days ago and in the showcase they revealed the trailer.

It is going to be a graphical enhanced version of the original game which was first released in 2010 as a XBOX 360 exclusive title. They want to give you the full Alan Wake experience including the story expansion, The Signal and The Writer. They were released as DLCs and the entire game comes with all new 4K visuals, updated environment, cutscene and brand-new making-of commentary.

You play as an Alan Wake, a writer who is searching for his missing wife in the Pacific Northwest. Some of you have met him in the AWE expansion of Control, another game set in the Remedy Connected Universe. Everyone get to know that the strange events in Alan Wake was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Control as an “Altered World Event”. Both Control and Alan Wake exist in the same world and the event of the one story ties to the other. Most of the original developers of the original are coming back to work in this title.

Alan Wake Remastered will be released on 5th October 2021 for PlayStation 4/5, XBOX Series X/S and PC.

GTA V and GTA Online


GTA V and GTA Online is set to be released for PlayStation 5 on March 2022. There will be technical and graphical improvements across both the games along with performance enhancements or select vehicles in GTA Online.

Ghostwire: Tokyo


Tango Gameworks finally released a trailer for their game Ghostwire: Tokyo. This is the same team that developed The Evil Within and its sequel.

A mysterious fog descends upon Tokyo, causing nearly all the city’s population to vanish. It was done by a masked group led by a masked man known Hannya. You awaken at the Shibuya Crossing with nothing but questions and waves of supernatural visitors to contend with but also happens to get abilities known as Ethereal, a powerful art that attunes the elements with spiritual energy. The game takes place in Tokyo which is now filled with spirits and supernatural happenings.

The game is set to be released in 2022 on PlayStation 5.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy


Crystal Dynamics revealed the story trailer for their new game, Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy.

The story takes place twelve years after an conflict known as Galactic War. Star Lord formed the Guardians of the Galaxy and have been together for less that a year. They are a heroes-for-hire seeking opportunities.

At the beginning of the game, due to some catastrophic events enabled a organization known as Universal Church of Truth to rise and threaten the universe. Its up to the Guardians to save them.

They are going to get a lot of allies in their journey of whom one of them going to be Cosmo.

The game is set to be released in 26th October 2021 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Bloodhunt


During the showcase we got to see Bloodhunt for the first time. This game game was announced earlier this year.

Bloodhunt is a free-to-play, third-person battle royale game set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe. The story takes in Old Town of Prague after a treacherous betrayals, rival vampire faction are thrown into turmoil. When both sides are targeted for annihilation by a secret society known as the Entity, you will have to use your supernatural powers, weapons to dominate the night.

The game will feature multiple clans and each clan is represented by two vampiric archetype. They come with their unique set of abilities and powers which allows for wide variety of playstyles. All of the characters have unparalleled transversal skills which allows the to scale any building, defy gravity and strike from anywhere.

The game also provides deep customization feature. A large variety of clothing, tattoos, jewelry, hairstyles and more. A variety of vanity will be available through the Battle Pass as well as through the in-game store.

Bloodhunt will be released on PlayStation 5 later this year.

Kid A Mnesia


A mysterious new collaboration between Radiohead and Epic Games was revealed titled Kid A Mnesia.

It is an upside-down digital/analogue created from the original artwor and record to celebrate 21 years of Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac.

It is going to be released on PS5 in November 2021.

Tchia


Awaceb, a young studio in New Caledonia unveiled their new game called, Tchia which also happen to take place on their island. The islands culture, music, language, folklore and tradition influences every aspect of this game.

You play as Tchia who is young, energetic girl. There is a lot of exploration in this games and there are many ways you can do it. One of the important features which was shown were her ability which is called Soul Jumping. It allows her to take control of any physical object or animal in the world.

The game is set to be released on PS4 and PS5.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine


Ubisoft unveiled the story trailer for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine.

For decades, Team Rainbow has shielded the world from some of the worst threats imaginable. Terrorist threats, biological weapons, and the threat of nuclear war have all been averted thanks to the elite operators in the Rainbow program. They face the greatest terror the world has ever seen: a lethal, mutating alien threat called Archaeans. REACT (Rainbow Exogenous Analysis and Containment Team) a team fight against the threat

The game is set to be released in January 2022 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows and Amazon Luna

Deathloop


The story trailer for Deathloop was unveiled in the showcase.

You play as amnesiac man called Colt. You wake up at a beach and tries to go and find answer but when you die you wake up again at that beach. You are stuck inside a timeloop.

The game takes place in Blackreef which is home to the AEON Program which allows the people living there to live forever which was possible by exploiting an anomaly and creating a timeloop. There are eight leaders known as Visionaries who controls the island and they also happen to be same people you have to kill in order to kill the loop.

The game is set to be released on 14 September 2021 for PS5 only.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection


PlayStation unvielved Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for the PS5. The collection include the remastered version of both Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

The game is set to be released in early 2022 on PS5 and shortly after will be released for PC. The PC version of the game is being developed by Iron Galaxy.

Gran Turismo 7


The latest game in the Gran Turismo franchise was revealed in the showcase called Gran Turismo 7.

In the campaign mode, the players are able to take their own unique journeys and gain life learning experience. Historic circuits like Trial Mountain and High Speed Ring will be returning.

There is a photo mode in this game called Scapes. It allows you to have complete control of photorealistic shots using the HDR technology. You able to take pictures in photo spots across 43 countries and over 2500 locations.

The game is set to be released in 4th March 2022.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2


Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to their critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Spiderman 2 is a single player adventure which sets to feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. In the trailer you see both the Spiderman fighting some goons and through a alley way Venom shows up. That’s right, the symbiote Venom is not only show up in the game but also happens to be the villian.

The game is set to be released on PS5 in 2023.

Marvel’s Wolverine


The other announcement which caught everyone by surprise was the announcement of the Marvel’s Wolverine. The game also developed by Insomniac Studio and they released a teaser.

This is an emotional narrative driven standalone game.

The game is currently early in development.

God of War Ragnarök

The last game which was announced is the showcase was God of War Ragnarök.
