The second major update for the PlayStation 5 will be released to all PS5 owners globally tomorrow.

Lets look at what’s new in the update.

Players will also be able to customize the Control Center by choosing which controls to hide or unhide, or rearranging them.

Players will also be able to easily view and write messages to your friends or parties directly from the Game Base in the Control Center.

Gaming and Social Experience Customizations

There is a new accolade type called “Leader” which players can award to other players or friends whom you play online matches together. The accolades will be visible on the player’s profile.

When players challenges for their best time or a highest score and set a new personal best, the video clip will be automatically recorded. The players can share those clips directly from the challenge card in either Control Center or Media Gallery.

The players have direct control over this feature from Captures and Broadcast settings.

There is a new Trophy Tracker that comes with the new update. Players are now able to access up to five trophies per game from the Control Center

The new update allows players to expeience 3D Audio through their built-in TV speakers. This can be enabled in the Sound menu.

This feature transforms standard two-channel TV speaker audio into three-dimensional sound which heightens the sense of gameplay immersion. Players can measure the acoustics of their room using the microphone on their Dualsense controller.

In addition, players who have a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset are now able to access equalizer within Sound Controls which allows them to customize the sound profile

M.2 SSD Storage Expansion

With the update, PS5 players around the world can finally expand the their PS5 storage with a M.2 SSD. This is the only solid state drive that be installed in both PS5 console and the Digital Edition.

Players can use the M2 SSD storage to download, copy and launch PS4 and PS5 games and as well as other media apps. You are able to play PS4 and PS5 games directly from the M.2 SSD storage and can freely move games between storage options.

It is important to note that not every M.2 SSD can be installed to the PS5. M.2 SSD’s must meet the minimum performance and size requirements which are outlined on this page.

In addition, the M.2 is required to have an effective heat dissipation with the cooling structure (i.e heatsink), that should also meet the dimensions required. It is advisable to read the page which is linked above carefully before buying any M.2 SSD or cooling structure for the PS5.

When using mobile data to play to manage the amount of data being used, the players are able to select their preferred video quality for mobile data streaming.

From 23rd September 2021, a new PS app update will begin to rollout globally which allows users the ability to view their friends’ Share Screen broadcasts together.
