Details on update 2.2 for Genshin Impact was showcased by miHoYo this week in TGS 2021.
The official name for this update is “Into The Perilous Labyrinth of Fog” and will be released on 13 October 2021.
The livestream revealed a lot of new and exciting information.
So let’s break it down and take a look at what update 2.2 has in store for us.
Characters
Thoma
The beloved retainer of the Kamisato Clan is going to joining the roster in the new update. He was introduced in the Update 2.0, and played a part in the Inazuma Archon Quest.
He is a 4 star character who has a Pyro vision and his weapon of choice is the Polearm.
His Elemental Skill “Blazing Blessing”, deals AOE pyro damage, his attack becomes fused with Pyro and also summons a blazing barrier. This barrier’s damage absoprtion can be stacked upon gaining another blazing barrier. This will also refresh its duration, making Thoma a reliable tank in your party. The shield will scale based on his HP, much like other characters who have a shied (Zhongli, Diona).
His Elemental Burst “Crimson Ooyori”, he slices his spear through his opponent through roaring fires whic deals Pyro damage and also create a protective shield that appears to resemble two shoulder pads. During its duration, the active character’s normal attacks will trigger AOE pyro damage and also summons blazing barriers. After unlocking one of his skill, the damage will dealth by the Crimson Ooyori’s AOE pyro damage will increase based on a certain percentage of Thoma’s maximum HP.
Aloy
Although Aloy was first released in the Update 2.1 as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation platform, in the new update she will be available to all of the players of all platforms.
To claim her, you only need to just log in to the game after the update and check the in-game mail.
Banner
Unlike in Update 2.1, where we got two new 5 star characters with their respective banner, this time there is going to be a rerun of two old banners in Update 2.2.
The first banner is “Farewell of Snezhaya” which feature Tartaglia a.k.a Childe who is the 11th of the Harbingers. This is the second time this banner is getting a rerun and is the only banner which has been featured more than twice.
The second banner is “Moment of Bloom” will feature Hu Tao, who is the 77th Director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. Thoma is going to be featured in this banner. This is the first rerun of the banner.
As of this writing, there is no information about which 4 star character will be featured in the banners.
Hangout Quest
There is no story quest in Update 2.2 however, the popular Hangout Event will be making a return.
Hangout Events was first introduced in Update 1.4 and in this update, Series 3 will be available and will feature the adorable ninja Sayu and Thoma. The series include the character, Barbara, Noelle, Chongyun, Bennet and Diona.
Hangout Events are special Story Quest that can be replayed and have multiple endings. These quest have a similar gameplay mechanic to Visual Novel games where you directly look in the person talking to you and do conversations. We will get to know more about the character through these quest.
Weapons
There is a new 5 star bow named Polar Star that will be released in the new update. The weapon will be featured in the limited time weapon banner.
There are 3 new 4 star weapons that is also going to be released: “Wavebreaker’s Fin” (Polearm), Akuoumaru (Claymore) and Mouun’s Moon (Bow).
Location
This update will introduce you to the final island of Inazuma called “Tsurimi Island”.
From the trailer, it looks like there is an eerie vibe to this island. There is huge dense fog which surrounds the entire island.
This island will host a new type of treasure chest “Remarkable Chest” where you can obtain Furnishing Blueprints.
Events
There are a lot of events featured in this update.
Labyrinth Warriors
The first event is called “Labyrinth Warriors”.
It is a combat event which involves Tartaglia and Xinyan.
You will be accompanied by a strange paper figure named ‘Shiki Taishou’
Before entering the trial, you are able to select 2 teams consisting of 4 characters each, one team for combat and the other for support. You are able to select 3 Shikafuda to carry, this can’t be changed once you enter the domain. There are a total of 9 Shikafuda. You can also only bring 2 teams (Combat and Support) in these trials and you are able to swap between them during the stages and only 1 team can be at the field at any time.
There are 5 levels where each level have multiple rooms to explore and random enemies will appear in the rooms and by defeating them you will get certain rewards. In a way this domain sounds like a rogue-like dungeon.
One of the rewards is “Aged Token” which you are able to exchange for rewards in the event shop. You are also able to claim Xinyan as part of the reward.
This event also introduce two new enemy types: “Riftstalker Hound” and “Riftstalker Whelp” and you are also able to encounter them when you explore Tsurimi Island. These enemies focus on stealth and if they are able to hit you, you will be affected by the “Corrosion” status. The status causes all members to continuously lose HP.
Shadow of the Ancients
This is an event where the Traveler comes across a Ruin Grader with regenerative healing abilities known as “Anomalous Ruin Grader”. In order to investigate it, the Traveler goes to seek help from a scholar from Sumeru.
The event is divided into 3 phases. The first one is “Investigative Surveys”. The scholar will give you a gadget called “Ayesha’s Chaos Prospector”. You are tasked to explore different location with the gadget to search for components to repair an ancient device called “Pursina’s Spike”. These devices can be used to cut flow of power to the Ruin Grader.
“Data Sampling” is the name given to the second phase and as the name applies, you will be testing these spikes. You have to test the functionality of these spikes by charging them using Electro.
The final phase is called “Live Testing”. In this phase you will directly confront the Anomalous Ruin Grader. You have to charge all of the Pursina’s Spikes within a time limit to cut the Ruin Grader from its power source.
Tuned to the World’s Sounds
This is a music based event similar to Windblume Festival minigame, Ballads of Breeze. In a way this a rhythm based event.
In this event, Kaedahara Kazuha will give you a “Floral Zither” to perform music. During this event other characters will accompany you.
There are a total of 7 characters that will participate in this event: Zhongli, Ningguang, Keqing, Xiao, Sangonomiya Kokomi, Kamisato Ayaka and the Raiden Shogun.
Each character will have their own song and have three difficulties (Normal, Hard and Pro).
Dreams of Bloom
This is an event is initiated by interacting with an Inazuman woman called Sakuya.
You have to do daily quest for her by obtaining certain items she requested in which she will reward you with special seeds. You are able to plant them inside the Serenitea Teapot.
These seeds will start to grow in time to become beautiful flowers called “Dreambloom”.
There are 3 different kind of Dreambloom. You are able to give gift these flowers to your friends. These flowers can be also used as Furnishing in the realm.
This is a limited time event.
Lay Line Overflow
You will get daily three chances to collect double the rewards in the “Blossom of Wealth” and “Blossom of Revelation”.
Game Update
In this update, there is a new realm layout that will be made available called “Silken Courtyard” along with a series of brand new Furnishings. Both of these are inspired by Inazuma.
You are only able to obtain this realm style when you reach Level 40 in Sacred Sakura’s favour.
In Update 2.2, the storage capacity for the Artifact section of your inventory will be increased from 1000 to 1500.
Genshin Impact X RAZER Collaboration
There is a new collaboration between Genshin Impact and RAZER.
Paimon theme gear will be released later this month.
These products will also come with bonus in-game rewards.
Genshin Concert 2021 “Melodies of Endless Journey”
After the livestream, there was concert held which showcased the music of Genshin Impact that featured stages in multiple countries including Belgium, South Korea and the US.
They also released 3 codes that can be redeemed during the livestream. This is a tradition that they in every livestream.
Do note that these three codes are limited time and are valid until 12:00am (UTC-4) on 4th October 2021 which is 10am in local time.
