Metriod Dread was released worldwide on October 8, 2021. This is the first mainline Metroid game since Metroid Fusion, released in 2002.
The story of Metroid Dread follows Samus Aran, the galactic bounty hunter as she investigates the source of a mysterious transmission, the planet ZDR. The game is an action-adventure 2D platformer and also includes underground mazes and puzzles.
Metroid Dread has sold 86,798 physical copies in Japan, setting a new franchise record for the Metroid series. Close to Dread is the new Far Cry game that sold 50,905 units.
Shortly after the release of Dread, this Switch exclusive title was already being emulated on PC using open-source Switch emulating software raising concerns with regards to emulation and video game preservation.
Using open-source software to emulate video games that are no longer supported on current hardware is an important step in preservation of these titles. However, Metroid Dread is a recent and is still available on the Nintendo Switch.
The best way to show support is to purchase this game and play it on the supported hardware.
