In the recently concluded Q2 earnings call, Ubisoft mentioned its future plans for blockchain games.
The earnings call comes in the middle of several delays on ongoing projects and workplace allegations.
According to the AAA games publisher, it will be funding the blockchain gaming company known as Animoca Brands.
This company is known for games such as Revv Motorsport and Revv Racing. Both of these games use a token known as “REVV” to enable players to “own” digital assets and collect in-game NFT items.
Ubisoft is also a founding member of the Blockchain Game Alliance and has been involved in the technology since its early days.
But how will this affect Ubisoft and their games? Let’s take a look.
According to Ubisoft executives, the publisher will be investing in blockchain gaming and creating more new titles. It might also look towards incorporating these elements into existing Ubisoft games.
Ubisoft claims that blockchain gaming is a “revolution” and will allow players to “play-and-earn” content.
That being said, blockchain, NFTs, and the related tech has been highly controversial for having an extremely negative impact on the environment and for the many scams and fraudulent behavior that’s become synonymous with the NFT trade.

Ubisoft has so far deflected most of these criticisms by claiming that it was still in the early stages of exploration of the technology.
