Details of the new update 2.4 for Genshin Impact were showcased by miHoYo on Twitch on 26 November 2021.
The official name for this update is “Fleeting Colors in Flight”.
The livestream revealed lots of new information.
So let’s break it down and take a look at what’s going to come in update 2.4.
Characters
Shenhe
A new exorcist is joining the roster in Update 2.4. She was first teased in voice lines of the characters that are from Liyue in the previous update but was officially announced before Update 2.3 was released.
Due to the many Polearm users in the game, the official twitter page joked about the game being called as “Polearm Impact”
People often mistake her as an Adeptus as she was raised by Cloud Retainer (who also is an Adeptus) from an early age as her disciple. She was raised in an isolated environment so she neither does not understand how the world works and the relationship between humans.
She is a 5 star Polearm user who wields the Cryo element. She is also the 10th Cryo user who was introduced to the game and now, Cryo along with Pyro hold the record of having the most users with 10 each.
Looking at her moveset, she is going to be a Cryo support character.
Her Elemental Skill “Spring Spirit Summoning” she will deal Cryo damage either way when the skill cast by tapping or holding, and that grants all party members the Icy Quill effect. Characters with the effect deal Cryo DMG using Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts, their DMG dealt will increase based on Shenhe’s current ATK.
However, when she gets her 4th ascension passive, how you cast the skill will completely changes as it allows the player to choose which sort of attack you want to get a buff. When the skill is cast by tapping, the DMG dealt by nearby teammates’ Elemental Skill and Burst will be increased, but when the skill is cast by holding, Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG dealt by characters will be increased.
Yun Jin
“The Divine Damsel of Devastation” is joining the roster in Update 2.4. She was first teased in voice lines of the characters that are from Liyue in the previous update.
She was announced along with Shenhe before Update 2.3 was released. Since she also happened to be the Polearm user and another Geo character (they released 2 Geo users in Update 2.3), the official twitter page joked about saying the game is now “Geo Polearm Impact”.
She is the director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe and is also a famous figure in Liyue Harbor’s opera scene. She is mostly known for her sweet singing voice and intricate costumes, as well as her animated and dynamic performances. Whether it’s a delicate and dignified young lady or a mighty and honorable heroine, she can play any role.
She is a 4 Star Polearm use who wields the Geo element. She is also the 7th Geo user who was introduced to the game and the 9th Polearm user.
Looking at her moveset, she is going to be a Geo support character.
Her Elemental Skill, “Opening Flourish” she will do a stance and starts charging. When the skill is cast, she will swing her polearm and unleash the charged energy as an attack. She will also deploy a shield for herself during that time. Based on the time spent for charging, it will either unleash an attack at Charge Level or Level 2.
Her Elemental Burst “Cliffbreaker’s Banner”, she will deal AoE Geo DMG and provides all nearby teammates with the “Flying Cloud Flag Formation” effect. When characters with this effect will deal Normal Attack DMG to enemies, they will deal Bonus DMG based on Yun Jin’s current DEF.
There is going to be a short film documenting about the stories of how the culture was influence to her designs which will be available in mid-January.
Banner
For the first time ever, there is going to be 4 banners in a single update in Update 2.4.
In the first half of the update, there will be one new banner (Shenhe) and one rerun banner (Xiao). They both will run simultaneously.
This is going to be the his first rerun and Yun Jin will be included in both banners.
Just like in Update 2.3, both of the banners will have same pity/pull count which is considered to be pretty good news. This means if you wish 80 times on Shenhe’s banner and switch to Xiao, you’ll be guaranteed a 5 star (either 50/50 or banner character).
In the second half of the update, there will be not only be two banners but also both of them will be reruns of previous banners of Zhongli and Ganyu. They both will run simultaneously.
Zhongli’s rerun is the second banner to have a second rerun along after Tartaglia’s and Ganyu is having her first rerun.
Looking at the banners, the players are really looking forward to this update. The characters in this Update are not only the favorites among the fanbase but also among the most strongest characters in the meta.
It seems almost guaranteed that miHoYo is going to get a lot more profit from this update alone.
Archon Quest
A new Archon Quest is coming to Update 2.4. “Archon Quest” is basically the name given to the main mission of the game.
The last Archon Quest was in Update 2.1 which was the finale to the Inazuma Arc.
This new quest is called as “Archon Quest Interlude Chapter: The Crane Returns on the Wind”.
This quest is mainly about the restoration of the Jade Chamber, a building which floats in the air which is the home of “Tianquan” Ningguang. The building was known for its magnificent grand design and is precious to her.
In the Lique arc, the building was used as sacrifice to defeat the “Overlord of the Vortex”, Osial.
After there were news about the restoration of the Jade Chamber, “The Traveler” decided to go and help. Both Yun Jin and Shenhe will be involved in this quest.
Hangout Quest
There are going to be two new addition to the Hangout Quest in the new update.
They will be “The Divine Damsel of Devastation” Yun Jin and the “Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing” Ningguang. Currently there are a total of 11 Hangout Quest.
Weapon and Artifacts
There are no new artifacts that are going to released in Update 2.4.
There is going to be a new weapon that will be released in this update, “Calamity Queller”. It is a 5 star Polearm and will be available from the weapon banner.
This banner most likely will be released with the first half of the update.
Amos Bow, Primordial Jade Winged-Spear, and Vortex Vanquisher are speculated to be on the weapon banners in both half of the update as they are the Best-in-Slot (BiS) of the rerun characters.
If this speculation ends up getting true, this update will definitely be a crowdpleaser and earn miHoYo quite a bit.
New Region
A new region is coming to Update 2.4 called Enkanomiya.
The place was first teased in Update 2.1 during the many quests in Watatsumi Island.
Enkanomiya is an underwater nation that has been sealed away for thousands of years. According to the legends, the ancestors who lived in Watatsumi Island actually lived here before moving to the surface under the leadership of Orobashi, the serpent god who was later slain at Yashiori Island.
Players can obtain the Key of the Moon-Bathed Deep with Shrine Maiden Tsuyuko and explore the ruins of an ancient civilization that is older than any other ruin you can see on land.
Unlike the other islands in Inazuma, Enkanomiya is a huge floating island located beneath the ocean. Although the loaction is located on Teyvat, the depths of Enkanomiya are somehow disconnected from this world as it is constantly eroded by the Abyss. Deprived of sunlight, there was no day night cycle in Enkanomiya until the rise of an ancient civilization. Using advanced technology and help from Orobashi, the people of Enkanomiya created an artificial sun, Dainichi Mikoshi, which lit up the dark depths.
Clues to this lost civilization are buried in the ruins of the abandoned library, shrines, laboratory, and the city’s remains. As you delve into the depths of Enkanomiya, the transition switch between day and night through Dainichi Mikoshi is the key to solving many puzzles.
While exploring you will also encounter Abyss Heralds and Abyss Lectors whom are basically mini-bosses.
New Enemies
There will be new enemies that are going to be introduced in Update 2.4.
Primodial Bathysmal Vishap
These enemies belong to the Vishap species.
They live in groups and are extremely dangerous. When their special attacks hits you, it absorbs energy from you and deal more damage.
Abyss Lector
He is adept at using Pyro element.
If you are hit with is Abyssal Pyro attacks, it will do delayed bursts of damage regardless if you are shielded or not.
When he reaches Phase 2, he will summon a Flame Core which will be used to buff his attackss
New World Boss
A new world boss is set to be introduced in the new update.
Rimebiter Bathysmal Vishap and Bolteater Bathysmal Vishap
They both are part of the Vishap species but in Bathysmal Vishap family.
It seems that you have to fight them both at the same time.
They work together to unleash more powerful attacks and make use of their surroundings in combat.
Events
There will be four events that’s going to be featured in this update.
A Study in Potions
In this challenge event, players will carry potions to test them out.
Different potions will provide different combat effects.
There will be four floors of combat challenges in each trial. The players are able to choose which order that you want to do the challenge floors. When each floor is completed, the remaining floors gets more harder.
You are able to choose trial characters for this event.
Eight Locales Over Mountains and Seas
In this event you are tasked with leading Kichiboushi, a little bake-danuki at the request of Iorio’s in order to train in the outside world.
You are going to take the bake-danuki out to Mondstat and Liyue to see the local culture and practices.
Windtrace
The event is coming again for the second.
This event is basically playing hide-and-seek with everyone.
There will be new maps added in this event.
Lantern Rite
Lantern Rite event is coming back again in Update 2.4.
This is basically an event which symbolizes the celebration of the Chinese New Year as Liyue is based on China and the game is made from a Chinese company.
Many players were wondering how miHoYo would be celebrating this event and whether they can improve on its performance during the one year anniversary, where it had to deal with a massive PR disaster. You can read more about it here.
Personally speaking, I think they did a much better job this time. But ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether this update makes up for the anniversary or not.
In any case, the first part of the event is called “Flameplume Starflowers” and this will allow you to make fireworks using a gadget called “Launch Tube”.
The second part of the event is called “Wondrous Shadows”.
This is very classic game which is often played during the Lantern Rite.
Basically, there will be an object and you have tilt it all directions until its shadows makes a clear image of something.
The third part of this event is called “The Great Gathering”.
Basically you will go and recover materials that were scattered when the Jade Chamber fell.
The final part of the event is called “Oceanic Defender”.
You will face a Osial again but this time as a boss.
Let’s look at all of the rewards that you are able to obtain from this event.
Upon completing all of the part of the parts you will get a lot of resources which include talent and weapon level up materials, along with Mora and Primogems.
Like the previous Lantern Rite, you are able to claim one 4 star character from Liyue for free which also includes Yun Jin who is avaiable in the first half of the banners. This is only seen in the Lantern Rite in the game’s history so far.
During the event, there is a log-in even called “May Fortune Finds You”. This is a reoccurring event which you will get 10 Interwined Fates at the end of the event.
During the Lantern Rite, two new skins are going to be released for 2 of the characters.
Those are Ningguang and “Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing” Keqing.
This is the second time skins are released for characters. The first being in Update 1.6.
Ningguang’s skin “Orchid’s Evening Gown” will be available for free as a event reward.
Keqing’s skin “Opulent Splendor” need to bought from the in-game store. Till the event ends, you will be able to get her in a cheaper price.
