Polish developer and creator of the Witcher series of games, CD Projekt Red, has announced that it would be working on a remake of the Witcher 1 with the Unreal Engine 5. This project will also feature the game studio known as Fool’s Theory.
Announced via Twitter, this is one of the five new games CDPR announced earlier this month. More specifically, this is the project known then as “Canis Majoris.” The following is a tweet about it.
According to the company, this remake will build the game from ground-up with the Unreal Engine 5. It was also revealed to be in the early stages of development.
Also notable that the company asked for players to be patient, adding that it would be a while before it can share further details.
In an announcement post, the Head of Studio for CDPR, Adam Badowski said, “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”
Canis Majoris caught our attention at the time because it was the first time CDPR was collaborating with a third-party developer. Fans speculated who it could be at the time, so congratulations to those that predicted this, if any exist.
The Witcher 1 originally came out in 2007 and currently has an 86 critic store and an 8.8 user score. It introduced a majority of the gaming world to the life and adventures of Geralt of Rivia.
We look forward to hearing more about this remake and all the work done on it.
