Netflix has announced that it would be working with the Coalition on a Gears of War movie and animated series for adults.
Netflix made its announcement via Twitter to mark the 16th anniversary of Gears of War. It also clarified that the movie would be live action and that the series would be animated.
Currently, it is not known if this movie is the same Gears of War movie that was stuck in development for about 15 years. Dave Bautista was talked about as Marcus Phoenix.
This news comes as a welcome surprise but is not entirely unexpected. Netflix has been somewhat well in the realm of video game adaptations with shows like Arcane and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners becoming critically acclaimed.
However, it is also worth noting that Netflix’s Resident Evil adaptation was canceled after just one season. Its adaptation of Castlevania, while having fans, also has drawn some criticism from fans of the original game.
As for the Gears of War video game franchise, the last game to come out was Gears Tactics. However, a new game is reportedly being worked on.
